The Lord Clyde pub in Deptford, famous for it's boxing club upstairs which is free for local youngsters, has won the first stage of its fight with developer Safeland who wanted to knock it down and build seven flats in its place. Lewisham Council has thrown out the application stating that it would lead to an "unacceptable loss of a public house and boxing gym", and also cited the "historical value and architectural character" of the building. The fight is not over however as Safeland will be appealing the decision to the Planning Inspectorate.
