    The role

    Based at our flagship waste management facility in Southwark the role is principally responsible for managing customer and stakeholder enquiries about Southwark’s waste services. Key to success will be the ability to provide timely and appropriate responses that lead to customer satisfaction. There will also be opportunities to get involved with events, education and behaviour change campaigns, targeting residents of Southwark to improve recycling participation.

    In addition, the role will involve working with the client team at Southwark Council and Veolia’s corporate team to meet communications targets and support our operations.

    Principle responsibilities;

    External communications

    ❖ Ensure that verbal and written communication with residents, the client and other stakeholders is of the highest possible standard and conforms to the correct format and style

    ❖ Support the communications team in the delivery of communications campaigns and engagement work - to improve recycling participation

    ❖ Deliver presentations and site tours for visitors

    Internal communications

    ❖ Maintain internal communications on site

    ❖ Support the delivery of internal events and awards

    ❖ Maintain good communications with Southwark Council staff and departments.


    ❖ Ensure that all enquiries received are answered within the correct timeframe

    ❖ Liaise with the operational team to ensure that responses are accurate and service issues are resolved

    ❖ Keep accurate records of penalties associated with complaints received and provide information to the performance team and client in a timely fashion

    ❖ Provide reception cover and complete general team duties when required

    Knowledge and skills;


    ❖ Excellent standard of written and spoken English

    ❖ Experience responding to customers enquiries or complaints in writing, as well as over the phone

    ❖ Experience working with data and processes

    ❖ Good interpersonal skills (remaining calm, polite and courteous)

    ❖ Good time management and organisational skills with experience of working to deadlines

    ❖ Intermediate knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word

    ❖ Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team


    ❖ Community, liaison or education experience

    ❖ Communications or marketing qualification

    ❖ Interest in the environment and recycling sector

    ❖ Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation
